چکیده

PurposeRadiation-induced cardiac toxicity is a potential lethal complication. The aim of this study was to assess whether there dose-dependent relationship between radiation dose and myocardial fibrosis in patients who received neoadjuvant chemoradiation (nCRT) for esophageal cancer (EC).Methods MaterialsForty with EC treated transthoracic esophagectomy (n = 20) or without nCRT (CROSS regimen) were included. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (1.5 Tesla) left ventricular (LV) function, late gadolinium enhancement, T1 mapping performed. Extracellular volume (ECV), as surrogate collagen burden, measured all LV segments separately. dose-response ECV mean per segment evaluated using mixed-model analysis.ResultsSeventeen 16 control suitable analysis. time after treatment 67.6 ± 8.1 122 35 (controls) months (P .02). In patients, we found significantly higher global 28.2% compared 24.0% the controls < .001). After nCRT, elevated had doses. addition, linear dose–effect relation 0.136% point increase each Gy There no differences function measures enhancement both groups.ConclusionsMyocardial long-term survivors surgery only. Moreover, segment, indicating radiation-induced fibrosis. Radiation-induced (EC). Forty Seventeen groups. Myocardial

Radiation induced myocardial perfusion abnormalities in patients with left breast cancer: A prospective study with short and long term follow up

Introduction:The external beam radiation therapy for patients with left breast cancer at the mastectomy site may cause myocardial perfusion abnormalities. We intended to study the change of these abnormalities at short and long term post radiotherapy follow up. Methods: Twenty patients with left and 20 patients with right breast cancer comprised the exposed an...

Radiation-induced myocardial perfusion abnormalities in breast cancer patients following external beam radiation therapy

Objective(s): Radiation therapy for breast cancer can induce myocardial capillary injury and increase cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. A prospective cohort was conducted to study the prevalence of myocardial perfusion abnormalities following radiation therapy of left-sided breast cancer patients as compared to those with right–sided cancer. Methods: To minimize potential confounding fact...

Cancer screening of long-term cancer survivors.

BACKGROUND Although 64% of cancer survivors are expected to live at least 5 years beyond diagnosis, the receipt of cancer screening by this population is unclear. The objective of this study was to assess the relation between a cancer diagnosis and future cancer screening, exploring provider-, patient-, and cancer-specific factors that explain observed relationships. METHODS The Wisconsin Lon...

Radiation dose and subsequent risk for stomach cancer in long-term survivors of cervical cancer.

PURPOSE To assess the dose-response relationship for stomach cancer after radiation therapy for cervical cancer. METHODS AND MATERIALS We conducted a nested, matched case-control study of 201 cases and 378 controls among 53,547 5-year survivors of cervical cancer diagnosed from 1943 to 1995, from 5 international, population-based cancer registries. We estimated individual radiation doses to t...

Should Cancer Survivors Fear Radiation-Induced Sarcomas?

Purpose/Results. Ionizing radiation is carcinogenic and the induction of a second malignancy is a serious potential long-term complication of radiotherapy. The incidence of radiation-induced sarcomas was evaluated from many large epidemiological surveys of long-term cancer survivors reported in the literature over the past 30 years and only one case was found for every 1000 patients irradiated....
